2. ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND:
The International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (The Union) is an international scientific organisation headquartered in Paris, France. Established in 1920, The Union’s goal is to promote national autonomy within the framework of priorities of each country, by developing, implementing, and assessing anti-tuberculosis, lung health and non-communicable disease programmes, as well as other public health issues.

The Union has been working to improve health for people in low and middle-income countries, by conducting scientific research, and working with governments and other agencies, to translate research into better health for people around the world, and delivering projects directly in the field, driving change to ensure the best quality care.

Union South East Asia (USEA), one of the organization’s largest offices since 2009, has been managing the USAID supported the Challenge TB (CTB) project, together with National Tuberculosis Elimination Program (NTEP) and providing critical support for advocacy, private sector engagement, improving working conditions for TB patients, improving access to molecular diagnostics in the private sector and among children, apart from rolling-out new drugs and regimens.

The CTB project introduced digital solutions for training, treatment adherence, and learning management in the country and worked together with corporates, civil society organizations, research and academic institutions, media and celebrities and parliamentarians, to provide TB a national platform and garner the highest level of political commitment.

Project Axshya, a Global Fund Round 9 project also supported by USEA, extends the reach of India’s NTEP through advocacy, communication and social mobilization activities in 300 districts across 21 states. Other key projects of USEA include support to tobacco control efforts in India, Nepal and Bangladesh, through the Bloomberg Initiative to Reduce Tobacco Use; Project LIGHT, which brought fluorescent LED microscopes to 200 Medical Colleges across India; and the Eli-Lilly supported project to expand sustainable TB control in India.

The Union also coordinates training to build capacity in the management of TB and MDR-TB, operational research, programme management and other skills.

About The Project:
iDEFEAT TB - Institutional Strengthening to Accelerate Actions for TB and Drug Resistant TB in India is USAID’s flagship TB project in India. The project serves to strengthen TB-related institutions, focusing on programmatic and clinical management of patients with TB and DR-TB, thereby contributing to the achievement of India’s National Strategic Plan and targets set forth at the United Nations High-Level Meeting on TB. iDEFEAT TB is being implemented by a consortium led by The Union.


3. JOB DESCRIPTION/ RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reporting to the Senior Manager-Knowledge Management, Monitoring, Learning and Evaluation, the Research and Data Analyst (RDA) shall be responsible for hands-on data management, analysis and interpretation of results for meaningful insights from the project.

The position will support the development of study frameworks, data analysis plans in line with study and assessment protocols, conduct of literature searches, screening of literature, data extraction, analysis and synthesis of results. S/he shall also be responsible for providing support to consortium partners in making their results more effective with inputs from outcome and process level data.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:
(1) Provide support in developing research concepts and finalizing associated tools to meet the data requirements of internal and external stakeholders;
(2) Conduct literature searches as per research questions and modify research concepts, as needed;
(3) Assist in the development of operationally feasible study designs for studies and assessments undertaken for the project;
(4) Develop study frameworks and analysis plans to address research questions;
(5) Overall analysis of data collected under various studies, as well as the planning of advanced analysis in collaboration with the project team;
(6) Ensure accuracy of data by the development and adherence to data quality protocols;
(7) Interpret results meaningfully to improve data usage by different stakeholders;
(8) Ensure the effective management of databases to limit data loss and provide a risk free data-processing environment;
(9) Identification of crucial and programmatically relevant findings from analysed results and devising appropriate dissemination mechanism;
(10) Assist in the design and revision of data collection formats and analytical tools, to accelerate processes for M&E activities under the project;
(11) Assist in the planning and preparation of relevant scientific manuscripts (based on study findings), suitable for publication in peer-reviewed journals;
(12) Stay up to date on recent developments in the public health and tuberculosis research space, identify gaps in current knowledge and maintain a consistent personal development plan;
(13) Function with the utmost sensitivity towards data confidentiality and privacy;
(14) Perform duties as assigned by her/his supervisor from time to time.


4. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES:

Qualification and Experience:
(1) Master’s degree in Epidemiology/ Demography/ Economics/ Public Health, or any other relevant degree with 
(2) Three to four years of experience in public health research;
(3) Skilled in the application of mixed research techniques in health or allied disciplines;
(4) Experience in developing study frameworks and data analysis plans;
(5) Prior experience in assisting with study implementation, analysis and interpretation of results and documentation, is preferred
;
(6)
Experience in Tuberculosis research, is desirable.

Skills and Competencies:
(1) Familiarity with data processing and analysis software (SPSS/ STATA/ Epi-info) and their use in developing dashboards;

(2) Proficiency in MS Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook;
(3) Demonstrated ability to write research reports;
(4) Demonstrated capacity to work closely, collaboratively and productively with research teams;

(5) Demonstrated skills in balancing multiple projects and priorities;
(6) Proven effectiveness while working in a team-based environment, but also capable of working independently;
(7) Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a complex environment;
(8) Ability to maintain clear, ongoing communication with the supervisor about the progress of activities;
(9) Participation in regular team meetings and updating study status;
(10) Skilled in successfully working with geographically dispersed teams and working in a multi-cultural environment;
(11) Written and oral proficiency in English, and verbal communication skills in one or more local languages;
(12) Ability to travel to project states.

5. COMPENSATION OFFERED:
