2. ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND:
Room to Read India (RTR India) was established in 2003 and presently has programs in nine states across India, comprising Chhattisgarh, Delhi NCR, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Telangana, Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh. The organization’s Literacy Program has been implemented in 15,642 government schools and 25,741 teachers trained in library management and reading activities. RTR India’s Girls’ Education & Gender Equality Program has benefitted over 62,457 girls during this period.
RTR is a global organization transforming the lives of millions of children in low-income communities by focusing on literacy and gender equality in education. Founded in 2000, on the belief that World Change Starts with Educated Children®, their innovative model focuses on deep, systemic transformation within schools during the two time periods that are most critical in a child’s schooling: early primary school for literacy acquisition and secondary school for girls’ education.
RTR works in collaboration with local communities, partner organizations, and governments to develop literacy skills and the habit of reading among primary school children and to ensure that girls complete secondary school with the skills necessary to negotiate key life decisions. 3. JOB DESCRIPTION/ RESPONSIBILITIES:
The IT Officer (ITO) will lead the IT Team at the India Country Office and ensure the provision of comprehensive technical support to all staff in India, relating to system software, hardware, operating systems, networks and related communications systems
The ITO shall introduce new technologies to the organization and offer effective training programs for all staff. S/he shall ensure the installation, configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure. S/he shall also ensure that systems hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related processes, adhere to organizational values.
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
(A) User Support
(1) Provide IT support to staff at the India Country Office and State Office levels;
(2) Install and manage software in coordination with the Global Office, including updates and license compliance;
(3) Remedy all issues relating to malware;
(4) Verify that Microsoft Windows and software updates are installed regularly;
(5) Provide technical support to staff for desktops, laptops, and mobile devices;
(6) Provide remote support to India Branch Offices.
(B) Networking
(1) Maintain network equipment, including all wireless access points, and firewall(s);
(2) Configure and maintain servers;
(3) Monitor and run diagnostics to ensure that all systems are running smoothly;
(4) Maintain network devices, including printers and all-in-one copiers;
(5) Institute and maintain rigorous and regular back up system for all users at India Country Office;
(6) Implement disaster recovery in alignment with organizational needs and Global Office processes and procedures.
(C) Compliance
(1) Communicate regularly with the Global Office IT team to ensure that the Country Office is following Global Office IT regulations and best practices;
(2) Maintain procedures and reports that provide technical support to the entire organization;
(3) Analyze records and logs to spot underlying trends and potential issues;
(4) Support the implementation of new solutions, or applications;
(5) Establish accounts for new users and assist with password and/or login problems;
(6) Design, develop, implement and coordinate systems, policies and procedures, relating to the management of IT assets.
(D) Team Management and Functionality
(1) Provide support in managing the IT team by recruiting, training and coaching employees, communicating job expectations and appraising their performance;
(2) Ensure security of data, network access and backup systems;
(3) Act in alignment with user needs and system functionality to contribute to organizational policy;
(4) Test, evaluate, and help teams in making decisions about new technology in the best interests of the organization;
(5) Identify issues and implement strategic solutions in time;
(6) Undertake any other task assigned by the supervisor.
4. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES:
Qualifications:
Applicants must have a graduate degree in IT, or equivalent certified course in IT.
Experience:
Minimum five years of relevant work experience in IT system administration.
Skills and Competencies:
(1) Must possess an in-depth understanding of multiple operating systems, network environment, hardware platforms and/or application areas, and be able to independently research, learn and implement best-practice solutions to problems;
(2) Must have the ability to work quickly and effectively under pressure, use judgment in accomplishing tasks that are urgent, or of a sensitive, or confidential nature; Balance conflicting priorities, and make decisions from a range of choices;
(3) Solid customer service skills are required; Must have effective verbal and written communication skills and be able to communicate with a wide range of users across India;
(4) Demonstrated ability to acquire and maintain a working knowledge of a wide range of applications and systems. Must have hands on experience in supporting users;
(5) System administration of Windows-based systems and servers;
(6) Well-versed in Microsoft Security practices (anti-virus and anti-spyware tools, security audit software), as well as office productivity software;
(7) Undertake, minimal, need-based travel, depending on work priorities.
