Job Description

1. POSITION VACANT:  Senior Nutritionist (SN), International Development Agency, Bhubaneshwar, Odisha

2. ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND
:
 

Our client is a respected, International Development Agency (IDA), that works across the globe to promote children's survival, protection and development.

Project Background:

The IDA is supporting Centre of Excellence (CoE), Orissa, in capacity building, monitoring and knowledge management initiatives for strengthening the facility and community based management of sever acute malnutrition in Odisha.

The CoE shall be established at Sishu Bhawan, Cuttack which is one of the oldest medical training and teaching institutes of Odisha. The establishment of the COE- cum – State Resource training center will aim to build the capacity of all staff on NRCs across the state in a phased manner; support monitoring of NRC indicators and need-based rapid assessments; support documentation of the implantation of CMAM and best practices in SAM management and to guide the state on evolving technical components under SAM management and facilitate convergent actions by multiple department.

3. JOB DESCRIPTION/ RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reporting to the Director, Capital Hospital, the Senior Nutritionist (SN) shall be responsible for providing support to the development of the NRC at Shishu Bhawan as a model NRC for management of SAM cases. The Senior Nutritionist (SN) shall be monitoring the services at the NRC and guide the NRC staff to strengthen and sustain quality delivery of therapeutic feeding, sensory stimulation, mothers’ counselling and management of medical complications as per standard protocols. S/he will also support all capacity building, monitoring and documentation initiatives, at the CoE.

Key Deliverables:
(1)
Provide technical and handholding support to the existing NRC at Shishu Bhawan in order to develop this NRC as a ‘Model NRC’ for the state;
(3) Provide technical support to trainings of NRC staff at the CoE and hands-on support for exercises and demonstrations during trainings;
(4) Support monitoring of NRCs including the provision of technical and handholding support to NRCs across the state;
(5) Support identification and documentation of best practices related to quality of care and protocols followed at NRCs;
(6) Provide support for training and rapid assessments of other child health/nutrition activities across the state.

4. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES:

 

Qualification:

(1) Master’s in Food and Nutrition/ Sociology/ Anthropology/ Child Development/ Social Work/ Agriculture/ Public Health.
(2) Advance management training in Health and Family Welfare subjects, will be preferred.
 

Experience:
(1) Minimum two years’ of work experience in the area of Nutrition;
(2) Minimum three years’ prior experience of working with Govt /non-governmental agencies or other UN agencies, will be an asset;
(3) Prior work experience or field experience with the practical application of planning, field coordination and management in feeding, Nutrition and Child Development programs, will be preferred.

 

Skills and Competencies:

(1) Good negotiation and influencing skills supported by excellent communication skills;
(2) Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills in English;
(3) Computer proficiency with specific familiarity with commonly used Windows and MS Office software and database software;
(4) Knowledge of local language would be an added advantage;
(5) Demonstrated ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment with strong facilitation skills, ability to analyze reports, plan and monitor projects.

 

5. ESTIMATED TRAVEL: Approximately 10 days in a month for achievement of the listed deliverables.

 

6. NATURE OF ENGAGEMENT:

 

The SN shall be hired on a consultancy contract through Strategic Alliance Management Services P Ltd. (SAMS), a respected HR Agency.


7. REMEUNERATION, DSA:

 

Remuneration payable to the selected candidate in the form of professional fees shall be Rs. 4.8 lacs per annum.

  

8. LOCATION: Bhubaneshwar, Odisha

 

9. DURATION: The successful candidate shall be issued a consultancy contract for 11 months from the date of joining, which will be renewable based on performance, funds availability and continuing requirement for the position.
