2. ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND:

CanKids…KidsCan (CanKids), is a highly respected, national, non-profit, with operations in 22 States and 53 cities across India, ushering in pioneering care and cure models with agility and innovation, and deploying digital solutions for the purpose. The organization is dedicated to effecting change and improvement on all aspects of treatment, care and support services, for children with cancer and their families in India.

CanKids has successfully implemented its Access2Care model for Change for Childhood Cancer in India, targeting global survival rates of 70-95% and high quality of life for child cancer patients, families and survivors. The Access2Care model delivers holistic support to families of children with cancer under its signature YANA – You Are Not Alone program, delivered through CanKids Hospital Support Units (CHSUs) and CanKids Care Centers (CCCs), at hospitals where children are being treated for cancer.


CanKids has to date supported over 53,000 families of children with cancer under the Access2Care program. CanKids presently has a team of over 2,400 persons, including full-time professionals, honorary members, energized survivors and committed volunteers from diverse backgrounds, working across India. CanKids and its partners in India and globally, receive support for their programmes and initiatives from leading corporate and public sector organizations, bilateral agencies, HNIs, and family trusts, amongst others.

3. JOB DESCRIPTION/ RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reporting to the CEO, the Director- Resource Mobilization (DRM) shall work closely with the Senior Management Team, under the oversight of the Board Resource Mobilization and Communications Committee, to ensure that annual fundraising goals are met, while growing and diversifying the organization’s donor base, to establish a sizeable corpus fund over the next few years.

The DRM shall work towards ensuring delivery-excellence for a range of donors (viz. global institutions and individual stakeholders), across the public and private domains. S/he shall develop, implement, and monitor, a fully integrated resource mobilization strategy, in line with CanKids’ strategic plan, vision and objectives. The DRM shall adopt innovative approaches, using both conventional and digital channels to raise untied/ unrestricted and longer-term (including corpus), financial resources for the organization. Her/his efforts shall be central to CanKids’ initiatives, helping optimize impact linked social investments by partners, while ensuring mission coherence and sustainability. S/he will lead a young team to accomplish planned objectives and work closely with a diverse set of stakeholders.

This is an exciting opportunity for an outstanding fundraising professional with commitment to social cause and demonstrated experience of strategic planning, scaling-up and systemizing fundraising operations and service delivery, to steer and help achieve CanKids’ ambitious plans, goals and targets, and serve as a key 'growth and change' leader.


Key Roles and Responsibilities:

(1) Contribute to the finalization of resource targets and strategies for the short and medium term, in line with CanKids Vision;

(2) Identify and leverage opportunities to influence and foster CanKids strategic partnerships at the project, region and national level, by strengthening outreach and advocacy agendas and realizing immediate/ medium-term objectives/ goals;
(3) Lead efficient market-mapping and opportunity landscape scanning for conversion, to establish a robust resource pipeline, serving a multi-year program portfolio;
(4) Globally initiate, nurture and manage relationships with key donors and partners, including CSR from Corporates and PSUs, International Foundations, HNIs and others;
(5) Lead the conceptualization and development of requisite funding proposals/ presentations/ follow-ups with the RM team, for current and new donors for ongoing/ planned programmes, plus new initiatives;
(6) Protect against donor churn and expand/ deepen donor engagement/ commitment, vide increases in funding and/or in the share of funding;
(7) Develop, strengthen and execute donor communications and branding strategies to support fundraising initiatives;
(8) Diversify the funding base by adding new donors and reviewing dependence across few;
(9) Build, lead and manage a high calibre, dynamic, and young functional team, through a combination of demonstrated leadership, supportive supervision and occasional mentorship, while instituting a culture of performance-accountability, and merit-linked recognition and rewards.

Other Management/ Support Functions

(1) Work closely with peer members of the Senior Management Team, and with the Board, to ensure scale-up and sustainability;
(2) As a part of senior leadership, participate and represent CanKids in different fora, both within and outside the organization;
(3) Participate in periodic joint review meetings with central and regional programme teams, in assessing continuity in operations and output, providing advice, as well as trouble-shooting inputs for the attainment of donor-funded project/ programme objectives;
(4) Coordinate closely with the finance team to ensure two-way communication and issue resolution, contributing to on-time turnarounds in reporting to donors, partners and stakeholders;
(5) Undertake need-based field visits, accompanying donor/ partner teams in conjunction with the regional programme teams.

4. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES:

Qualification:
Applicants must be post-graduates, preferably in Marketing, Communications, Business Management, Media Studies, Social Sciences, or related field.


Experience:
(1) Applicants must have a minimum of 12-15 years of work experience, of which three years must be in a leadership role, with a proven track record of resource mobilization/ fundraising, with emphasis on building and maintaining donor relationships across the public/ private sectors;

(2) Resource mobilization/ fundraising experience with the development sector, shall be an advantage;
(3) Applicants with relevant private sector experience, meeting other requirements in this notification, are encouraged to apply;
(4) Experience of leading multi-member teams of resource mobilizers across different channels/ formats popular with the development sector;
(5) Experience of using digital marketing/ online fundraising/ event-based/ event -linked campaigns, to increase unrestricted giving;
(6) Experience of managing donor/ partner database platforms and pipeline management, to strengthen and actively use CanKids’ V-DAN Salesforce-based platform;
(7) Prior experience in corpus giving, endowment funds and sustainable giving, is desirable;

Skills and Competencies:

(1) Good knowledge and appreciation of the social and development sector, with emphasis on the health sector;
(2) Good knowledge of programme/ strategy frameworks;
(3) Ability to lead proposal writing, accompanied by a good understanding of donor-project contracts and related modalities, to ensure smooth resource mobilization and management, in the social sector;
(4) Understanding of corporate social responsibility and FCRA laws and policies;
(5) Good understanding (as well as experience) of contemporary resource-mobilization frameworks, such as, SIBs/ DIBs, Performance-based Funding, Consortium-based Funding etc., is desirable;
(6) Good understanding of different RMEL and Impact frameworks and their use in donor management, is desirable;
(7) Good interpersonal skills, including problem solving and leadership abilities;
(8) Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
(9) Demonstrated leadership acumen, critical thinking, innovation and solution orientation, and cognitive flexibility;
(10) Good networking skills.

5. COMPENSATION OFFERED:

Gross compensation budgeted for the position is Rs. 18 to 22 lacs per annum. Please note that the offer made to the selected candidate shall be commensurate with qualifications, experience and salary history.
