S M Sehgal Foundation (SMSF) is a public, charitable trust registered in India in 1999. SMSF’s vision and mission is to strengthen community-led development initiatives to achieve positive social, economic, and environmental change across rural India. SMSF works towards ensuring that persons in rural India are empowered to lead more secure, prosperous, and dignified lives.
SMSF designs and promotes rural development interventions that create opportunities, build resilience, and provide solutions to some of the most pressing challenges in India’s poorest communities. SMSF’s grassroots programs endeavor to address three of rural India’s most pressing and interrelated issues viz. water security, food security, and social justice.

3. JOB DESCRIPTION/ RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reporting to the COO/ Audit Committee, the Internal Auditor (IAUD) shall be a trained accounts and financial management professional, tasked with the responsibility of providing ongoing independent and objective evaluation of SMSF's financial and operational processes, confirming that these are robust, incorporate suitable checks and balances, and ensure that the organization’s programmes fulfil their objectives.
S/he will also help the organization adopt a systematic, disciplined approach to continuously assessing and improving the effectiveness of risk management, controls, and governance processes.
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
(1) Objectively review SMSF procedures and functions relating to finances and operations;
(2) Provide feedback regarding financial health and operational issues to the Audit Committee;
(3) Flag all issues relating to risk management and internal control processes specific to finance and operations within the organization, thereby protecting it against fraud and theft;
(4) Evaluate the efficacy of risk management processes and procedures that are currently in-place;
(5) Ensure that the organization is compliant with relevant laws, statutes and regulations;
(6) Make recommendations for improving internal controls and governance processes;
(7) Participate in and support: Integrity reviews of operations; MIS-driven system and programming evaluations; Ongoing initiative for computerization and systems development, etc.
4. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES:
Qualifications and Experience:
(1) Applicants must be qualified Chartered Accountants, with 5 to 10 years of experience in the assurance/ internal audit function, with large public accounting firms, and strong exposure to reputed non-profits and/or foundations;
(2) Semi-qualified Chartered Accountants with good exposure to the assurance/ internal audit function with large public accounting firms, shall be considered;
(3) Candidates with additional experience of directly handling and/or leading the financial management function, shall be at an advantage.
Skills and Competencies:
(1) Understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and concepts;
(2) Good knowledge of FCRA, GST and other regulations applicable to non-profit organizations, and their compliance;
(3) Problem-solving skills;
(4) Expertise in Tally ERP 9 and Microsoft Excel;
(5) Excellent prioritizing and time-management skills;
(6) Very high levels of commitment and integrity;
(7) Excellent inter-personal skills.
5. COMPENSATION OFFERED:
Gross compensation budgeted for the position is attractive. The offer made to the selected candidate shall be commensurate with qualifications, experience and salary history.
6. LOCATION: Gurugram (with extensive travel to project locations in different states across the country).
7. NATURE OF AGREEMENT: This is a full-time consultancy, and the initial contract will be offered for a period of one year, renewable based on performance.
