1. POSITION VACANT: Consultant- Writer, International Development Agency, Delhi

2. ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND:

Our client is a respected, International Development Agency (IDA), that works across the globe to promote children's survival, protection and development.

PROJECT BACKGROUND:

 

India continues to fight COVID-19 pandemic through multi-pronged strategies of immunization and RCCE promoting COVID appropriate Behaviours (CABs) and optimal vaccine uptake. As on April 8, 2022, about 96% of all 15+ population in the country has received at least one COVID vaccine dose, while about 83% of 15+ population has received both doses. The third wave of the pandemic has now witnessed a steady fall in the number of cases across several states in India. However COVID-19 is on the rise in many countries and the coronavirus is making a comeback in Europe as ‘stealth’ Omicron. The BA.2 variant is responsible for 33 percent of cases in the United States. China is seeing new waves of the pandemic despite lockdown measures reported. New variants called XE, BA.4 and BA.5 too have been reported in many countries.

 

As IDA continues to take lead on communication support to Government of India, preparations for potential fourth wave and new variants are ongoing.

IDA has supported the COVID-19 strategic communication response as part of the National Media Rapid Response Cell ( NMRRC) from 2020, that includes drafting, editing and writing print articles interviews, documents, brochures and coffee table books.

There is a requirement for a full-time consultant to be placed in the MoHFW to support all documentation and professional media related writing in relation to COVID-19 communication, children’s health and other related issues.


3. JOB DESCRIPTION/ RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Consultant - Writer shall be responsible for media related writing including but not limited to opinion pieces, thought pieces, speeches, feature articles, key messages, research for media briefings to support MoHFW at the national level. S/he will also be involved in planning and implementation of COVID-19 vaccine communication strategy and action plan rollout.

The main objective of the assignment is to support Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India to maintain positive public awareness of the priority messages with wider audiences and counter misinformation.


Key Responsibilities:
(1) Writing of professional opinion pieces, thought pieces, speeches, feature articles, key messages and research for media briefings;
(2) Coordinate with relevant departments for vetting of the writing assignment;
(3) Coordinate with relevant departments for research for briefings/ speeches for ministers, officers of MoHFW and IDA;
(4) Documentation and generating reports for events, meetings, conferences and coordination for the same;
(5) Support the development of media outreach plans and placements in media.

 

4. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES:          

 

Qualifications:

Advanced university degree in Communication, Journalism, Public Relations or related field.


Experience:

 

(1) Applicants must possess minimum five to eight years of progressively responsible and relevant professional work experience;
(2) Background/ familiarity with development issues especially public health and responding in quick turnaround times;
(3) Experience in organizing advocacy/ media events desirable;
(4) Professional writing experience for newspaper thought pieces is a requisite
(5) Professional English writing skills essential.

Skills and Competencies:

(1) Excellent writing skills for articles and reports;
(2) Knowledge of Cloud storage and Cloud office suites like Dropbox, Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive etc for documentation and sharing and collaboration;
(3) Basic Photo Editing
(4) Fluency in English, Hindi and one Indian state language desired

5. ESTIMATED TRAVEL: Approximately two days in a month for achievement of the listed deliverables.

6. NATURE OF ENGAGEMENT:

The SC-WASH shall be hired on a consultancy contract through Strategic Alliance Management Services P Ltd. (SAMS), a respected HR Agency.


7. REMEUNERATION, DSA:

Remuneration payable to the selected candidate in the form of professional fees shall be attractive and in alignment with market norms.

9. DURATION: The successful candidate shall be issued a consultancy contract from the date of joining till December 31, 2022.
