3. JOB DESCRIPTION/ RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reporting to the Portfolio Management Specialist, the Communications Specialist shall support the Country Director and Portfolio Management (PFM) Team and projects, in managing all aspects of communications and public relations for one of GIZ’s largest country portfolios.

The incumbent shall be responsible for developing a relevant communications strategy for GIZ India, covering internal and external communications, liaison with the Corporate Communications Unit at the GIZ Head Office (HO) in Germany, extending all relevant support to projects, and media management for the Indo-German Development Cooperation portfolio. S/he shall also set up and manage events and be responsible for quality control of all aspects of GIZ India’s communication products.

In addition, s/he will work with the PFM Team on managing the exchange between projects, the Country Office, the German Embassy, and GIZ structures in other countries besides Germany.

The incumbent will have the following job responsibilities:

(1) Implementing and developing the overall corporate communication strategy of GIZ India, especially at the Country Office level;

(2) Assuring standards and guidelines for GIZ India’s communication work both at Country Office and at the project level according to the HO directive “Recommendations for communication by GIZ Offices’ and other similar directives;

(3) Supporting the Country Director with a strategic orientation of communication in the country and in presenting a consistent corporate image in India and elsewhere.

Key Tasks:

(A) Communication Strategy:

(1) Developing and implementing a coherent and systematic strategy for external and internal communication including communication products such as brochures, portfolio overview, leaflets, factsheets, presentations, press work, and online communication (e.g., intranet, social media);
(2) Strategic planning and management of all communication-related work for the Country Office and the GIZ India portfolio at large.

(B) Internal and External Communication:

(1) Creating a pool, cooperating with, and coordinating external communication service providers (e.g., media agencies, photographers, copywriters, event managers, printers, product developers, digital content creators, etc.);
(2) Managing all aspects of media production from the idea to the final product;
(3) Maintaining, improving, and expanding a collection of communication tools on the activities and impacts of GIZ in India;
(4) Providing inputs for requests from international media, German media, and others regarding the activities and impacts of GIZ in India;
(5) Managing the social media accounts of GIZ India (Twitter and LinkedIn);
(6) Working with the internal knowledge management system of GIZ India, including virtual platforms such as Common Portal and IDA, the platform will include publications (e.g., evaluation reports of projects, surveys), photos and videos, best practices of communication material (exhibitions and events) and blueprints of project websites plus all digital products of GIZ India (e.g., apps);
(7) Supporting the HR department of GIZ India in the development and implementation of an Employer Branding Strategy.

(C) Exchange with Internal and External Stakeholders

(1) Cooperating closely with GIZ Corporate Communications Unit at HO in Germany;
(2) Coordinating international and German media enquiries with HO;
(3) Pro-actively sharing communication-related best practice examples with APLAK and HO;
(4) Ensuring the flow of communication-related information between HO and GIZ India;
(5) Ensuring a high level of visibility of GIZ India’s activities within the company;
(6) Actively participating in company-wide exchange formats and events with relevance to communications;
(7) Cooperating with other German implementing organisations in the region and the German Embassy for all matters related to GIZ communications.

(D) Event Management:

(1) Designing, organising and running events relevant for the overall GIZ India portfolio, e.g., Country Conference, GIZ India wide engagement events (e.g. Diwali Party), team workshops, etc.;
(2) Organising regular formats of exchange with external stakeholders such as the German consulates, the German Embassy and German political foundations.

(E) Project-level Support:

(1) Providing support and advice to GIZ India projects regarding their overall communication strategy and activities;
(2) Supporting projects in the realisation of communication workshops;
(3) Assuring quality of work and compliance with GIZ communication standards and guidelines for all communication materials;
(4) Conducting on-demand info sessions on communication-related topics for GIZ India staff;
(5) Organising regular exchange formats with project communication officers to meet needs and expectations emerging from project activities;
(6) Coordinating communication activities at country level with project communication officers (e.g., topic weeks on social media);
(7) Sharing new trends and best practice examples with projects (from other GIZ Country Offices, HO, or the industry).

(F) Others:

(1) Supporting the PFM Team and the Country Director in ad-hoc tasks as needed, for requests from the German and Indian side.

4. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES:

Qualifications:
Applicants must have a Master’s degree in Communications, Social Sciences, Administrative Sciences, Political Sciences, International Relations, Marketing, Journalism, or related fields.

Experience:
(1) Minimum eight years of experience across communications and media strategy, media planning, content management, public relations, and digital/social media engagement;
(2) Experience in engaging diverse stakeholders, including media, industry and business associations, and policymakers;
(3) Experience in the development or international cooperation, with other bilateral, multi-lateral agencies, shall be highly preferred.

Skills And Competencies:

(1) Strong network of local journalists and media representatives;
(2) Demonstrated ability to present information in a well-structured manner and to write in a precise but accessible style;
(3) Good command of a range of social media platforms, Adobe Cloud, CMS as well as Microsoft Office tools;
(4) Keen interest in the latest corporate communication and social media trends; demonstrated willingness to pick up on new trends and incorporate them into the communication strategy of GIZ India where appropriate;
(5) Fluent in English with high quality writing and drafting skills; Knowledge of German will be an asset;
(6) Experience with administrative and organisational tasks;
(7) Sound communication, social and intercultural competence as well as high resilience and tolerance;
(8) Demonstrated ability to work with multiple demanding stakeholders and therefore effectively juggling conflicting priorities at a given time;
(9) Diligent, detail oriented and self-organised in the execution of tasks with an affinity to digital solutions.

6. COMPENSATION OFFERED:

Gross compensation budgeted for the position is attractive. Please note that the offer made to the selected candidate shall be commensurate with qualifications, experience and salary history.

7. DURATION OF CONTRACT: The incumbent shall be offered a two years contract, with possibility for extension.
