JOB DESCRIPTION

Operations Manager, Society for Education, Action, and Research in Community Health (SEARCH), Gadchiroli, Maharashtra

 

1. POSITION(S) VACANT: Operations Manager, SEARCH, Gadchiroli, Maharashtra

2. ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND:

 

History: Inspired by the life and philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi, and equipped by their medical training in India, and subsequent, training in public health and research at the Johns Hopkins University, the doctor couple Abhay and Rani Bang, founded Society for Education, Action and Research in Community Health (SEARCH) in 1986.

SEARCH is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) working in the poorest, semi-tribal district, Gadchiroli, in the state of Maharashtra, (India), 1000 km away from Mumbai.

Vision: SEARCH’s vision is 'Aarogya-Swaraj' which means ‘People’s Health in People's Hands’, by empowering individuals and communities to take charge of their own health, and thereby, help them achieve freedom from disease as well as dependence.

Mission: Mission of SEARCH is service, training, empowerment, and research in health of the communities as expressed in its name.

Headquarters: ‘Shodhgram’, located 17 km from the district headquarters of the Gadchiroli district. The campus, spread over 47 Acres, is modeled over a mix of Gandhian Ashram, tribal village, and modern facilities. It has more than 80 buildings including hospital, research center, training centers, training hostels, library, administrative offices, guest houses, tribal museum, community centers, mess cum dining facilities, residential facilities for 120 staff, solar plant, playground, organic farm, and a small lake.

With a team of 150+ professionals and 150+ Community Health Workers, SEARCH has emerged as one of the most reputed and credible grass root service and research organizations in India. 3. JOB DESCRIPTION/ RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reporting to the Director, SEARCH, the Operations Manager (OM) shall be responsible for the following:

 

Key Roles and Responsibilities:
 

(A) Program Planning and Operations:
(1) Assist Director and all Team Leaders in preparing annual plans, budget and ensure monthly appropriate reports from each team including necessary coordination within programs;
(2) Undertake program monitoring and evaluation visits, provide feedback to Director and Program Leader including corrective measures if any, and follow up for action;

(B) Legal and Statutory Requirements:
(1) Ensure the compilation and filing of various returns as per requirements of the Charity Commissioner, Income Tax and any other Government and Statutory / Legal Authorities;
(2) Assist in drafting partnership agreements as appropriate;

 

(C) Policies, Processes & Organizational Development:
Assist and coordinate the institutional policy formulation and designing manual of the procedures for public relations, procurement, financial and accounting, legal and statutory, tax, energy use, guest management and building maintenance, and administration;

 

(D) Networking & External Stakeholder management:
Ensure appropriate communication with external stakeholders including guests, plan programs of visitors/ interns/ students/ volunteers in SEARCH and their hospitality as well as ensure necessary induction;

 

(E) Estate Management:
(1) Regulate maintenance of all premises such as office premises, other buildings required for various programs, staff quarters on the campus;
(2) Plan and monitor all maintenance and upkeep related work of the campus buildings, furnishing and fittings, electrical supply, water supply, sewage management and resources such as wells and lakes;
(3) Plan and monitor new buildings that are under construction or need to be constructed;

 

(F) Public Relations:
(1) Communication with guests, planning programs for visitors in SEARCH and their hospitality;
(2) Introduce the SEARCH activities to visitors and students, fellows and interns;

 

(G) Training and Programs Coordination:
(1) Arrang space for conducting training;
(2) Arrang other support facilities such as food, accommodation, electric supply back up;
(3) Oversee preparation for training;

 

(H) Liaison Activities:
(1) Liaise and discuss related matters with government at the local, taluka, and district levels;
(2) Laise with lawyers, solicitors, contractors and other agencies contracted by the organization;

 

(I) Administration:

(1) Compilation and filing of various returns as per government requirements;
(2) Preparation of periodic reports and annual reports on the work of the administration department;
(3) Ensure proper monitoring inventories of stores, office, building and maintenance, vehicles, and different departments of the organization;
(4) Conduct all purchase procedures such as tendering, selection and purchase and scrutiny of bills and passing bills for payment;
(5) Schedule maintenance of all furniture and office equipment (copiers, printers) and equipment such as audiovisual used in the organization;
(6) Regulation of vehicle utilization for various activities of the organization and supervision of maintenance of vehicles.

4. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES:

Qualification
Graduate or Postgraduate in any field from a reputed institution;

Experience
Minimum five years of relevant experience in a managerial or leadership role.

 

Skills and Competencies
(1) Should be strong at problem-solving and decision-making, leading teams with good people skills;
(2) Ability to apply a variety of strategic frameworks to analyse scenarios to guide and develop solutions;
(3) Passion for development and an understanding of the social impact space;
(4) Excellent oral and written communication in English and Marathi.

 

5. COMPENSATION OFFERED:
Gross compensation budgeted for the position is attractive. The offer made to the selected candidate shall be commensurate with qualifications, experience, and salary history; Provident Fund, Medical Insurance, and Gratuity will be applicable as per the policy of SEARCH.

(6) Leave Policy: 16 days of summer vacation; 7 days of Diwali vacation; 7 casual leaves;12 public holidays can be availed in a year.
