2. ORGANIZATIONAL BACKGROUND:

Launched in 2012, Action for India (AFI) is a non-profit organization that aims to help social entrepreneurs in India scale and expand their impact. AFI does this by connecting entrepreneurs with mentors, investors, and other key resources to help scale their ventures.  AFI’s signature event, the annual Silicon Valley Challenge (SVC) trek, has had demonstrated success in bringing together social entrepreneurs, investors, influencers, and other key stakeholders, to share knowledge and build and strengthen networks.

Incorporated as a Section 8 Company in India and as a 501(c)(3), non-profit organization, in the USA, AFI has international chapters in Silicon Valley and the UK.

Over the past decade, AFI has developed a large multisectoral network of +800 social entrepreneurs in India, with high credibility with the Indian diasporas. Additionally, AFI has promoted five promising social entrepreneurs each year, through the annual SVC trek, helping them foster close connections with mentors, impact investors, and technology resources in the Valley.

AFI’s initiatives have started yielding gratifying and impressive results, with several social enterprises receiving funding, scaling tie-ups, and expanding their business size and impact in recent years. AFI is contributing to the creation of 25 Impact Unicorns by 2025, each having the potential to positively impact at least a million lives with sustainable revenues over a 5-year period. AFI believes it has already beneficially impacted 10 million+ lives across India.

3. JOB DESCRIPTION/ RESPONSIBILITIES:

Job Summary:

AFI is seeking a visionary and strategic leader to serve as its Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The CEO shall work closely with the Board of Directors, staff, and partners to shape AFI's future strategy, lead its operations, and ensure its financial sustainability. S/he shall lead a team of professionals and work collaboratively with stakeholders, to achieve AFI's mission of empowering social entrepreneurs in India.

This is an exciting opportunity for a senior social impact professional, with a good understanding of the existing social entrepreneurship ecosystem and interest in growing this exponentially, with the active engagement and support of the Indian diasporas, to accelerate social enterprise development in India.

Responsibilities:

(1) Provide strategic leadership and direction to AFI's team, ensuring alignment with its mission, vision, and values;
(2) Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including social entrepreneurs, investors, mentors, donors, government agencies, Indian diasporas, and other non-profit organizations;
(3) Develop and execute AFI's strategic plan, including fundraising, programmatic, and operational goals, ensuring a clear and measurable sustainability pathway orientation;
(4) Oversee AFI's financial management, including budgeting, accounting, and reporting;
(5) Ensure that AFI's programs and services are of high quality and meet the needs of social entrepreneurs;
(6) Manage and develop AFI's team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability;
(7) Represent AFI at conferences, events, and other public forums, advocating for its mission and impact;
(8) Stay abreast of trends and developments in the social entrepreneurship sector, and identify opportunities for AFI to leverage its expertise and resources.

4. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES:

Qualifications and Experience:

(1) A Bachelor's degree is required;
(2) Candidates with an advanced degree in business, public administration, or a related field shall be at an advantage;
(3) At least 10 years of senior leadership experience with the impact sector, or non-profits, or social enterprises, or corporates, with a track record of success in strategic planning, fundraising, and team management;
 

Competencies and Skills:

(1) Strong understanding of social entrepreneurship and the challenges and opportunities facing social entrepreneurs in India;
(2) Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to inspire and influence diverse stakeholders;
(3) Demonstrated ability to develop and execute strategic plans, and to manage budgets and financial reporting;
(4) Experience with fundraising and donor relations, including grant writing and major gifts;
(5) Strong team leadership and management skills, with the ability to build and motivate a high-performing team.

 

5. COMPENSATION OFFERED:
 

The gross compensation for the position compares favorably with the remuneration paid to leadership talent by social impact incubators. The offer made to the selected candidate shall be commensurate with qualifications, experience, and salary history.

6. LOCATION: The position is based in Bengaluru. Outstanding talent based in Delhi or Mumbai, shall also be considered.
