2. ORGANISATION BACKGROUND:

CG uses it’s communications to attract big organisations into their work and also as leverage to convince more organisations to make commitments. CG seeks to inform and support the government in making policy changes that tackle climate change and grow Indian prosperity.

CG has already had a major impact on electricity and vehicle markets and has influenced the electricity demand of a large country to go renewable and millions of vehicles to go electric. It runs the world’s largest climate week and in India, it runs programmes that help shift industrial, transport, and energy systems to a cleaner future.

3. JOB DESCRIPTION/ RESPONSIBILITIES:

Summary

CG is looking for a talented, ambitious and knowledge-led individual, to support the organization’s mission of driving climate action fast, working closely with global and regional business action teams.

This is a fixed-term employment opportunity based in CG’s New Delhi office. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Communications, India, the Communications Officer (CO) will play a critical role in supporting the organization’s work in the region. S/he will be responsible for deploying CG’s communications strategies to amplify their work in India. In this context, the post holder shall engage with relevant stakeholders across business, government and civil society, and offer communication support as a part of ongoing projects. The incumbent shall work closely with teams from CG’s international offices in London and New York, and partner organizations, in India and globally.

Key Job Responsibilities:

(A) Content Creation (40%)

(1) Plan and create content for CG’s work with businesses in states and regions;
(2) Understand the objectives and desired outcomes for different projects, and take the lead in developing the best communications approaches, to accomplish the same;
(3) Serve as lead communications expert within certain teams and/or projects;
(4) Research and draft compelling news stories, articles, blog posts, Q&As, social media posts and other materials;
(5) Provide support on reports, briefings and case studies. Feed-in ideas for design, launch and media opportunities, need-based copy editing, and promotion;
(6) Seek opportunities to link the actions of CG’s government and business stakeholders to topical global issues and news;
(7) Collate a base of materials, references, facts and figures, to provide proof points and information for CG’s messaging and communications.

(B) Supporting in Developing Communication Strategy (20%)

(1) Play an integral part in the development and execution of communications strategies and plans. Provide proactive support for the enhancement of CG’s communications approach;
(2) Provide help to maintain and build the CG brand;
(3) Lead on assigned communications and provide tactical support for key campaign pushes and events, to ensure that CG’s work has the desired impact on key audiences;
(4) Assist in the development and deployment of compelling key messages;
(5) Work with international bodies, states, businesses and NGOs, on joint projects to further work on climate change;
(6) Work in and across key CG systems, identifying links across the work of the India team, as well as wider teams across the organisation;
(7) Provide input to new project plans so that communications needs are properly reflected in bids to funders;
(8) Manage the India communications calendar, ensuring that all major events are properly planned. Also identify and carefully assess the need for and/or requests for more;
(9) Deputize for the Senior Communications Manager, as and when required.

(C) Digital (20%)?

(1) Lead on day-to-day digital delivery of CG’s work in India;
(2) Ensure integration of the latest digital trends into CG’s plans and outputs;
(3) Engage member governments and partner organisations. Create and distribute social media toolkits and foster cooperation;
(4) Develop, manage and update content on web pages, ensuring best web practices and suggesting ideas for innovation;
(5) Track and report website, social and newsletter statistics and suggest ideas for improvement based on data.

(D) Media (15%)

?(1) Develop and write press releases meeting CG’s internal standards. Obtain input on ideas, and actively incorporate feedback to improve newsworthiness, as well as the quality of CG’s approach showcased in the public domain;
(2) Proactively build relations, and promote key CG selling-in stories and opportunities, to different stakeholders, including journalists and governments;
(3) Actively nurture potential connections with new media outlets and journalists and develop stories that appeal to CG’s key audiences;
(4) Maintain a database of CG’s media coverage to assess opportunities for future stories and outreach.

(E) Administration (5%)

?(1) Ensure the efficient management of logos, images and all digital assets;
(2) Plan agendas for meetings, writing-up action points and drive those forward;
(3) Liaise with CG’s global offices, supporting outputs from a global perspective;
(4) Keep up to date on relevant issues/ policies;
(5) Periodically support the broader CG corporate communications team, as necessary.

4. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES:

Qualification

A degree in communications, environment, politics or other discipline aligned with the role is desirable.

Experience

(1) Demonstrable experience in communications and of working with a communications team or press office;
(2) Experience of working with governments and/or Ministers’ offices
, is desirable;
(3) Experience of working or volunteering internationally, is desirable.


Skills and Competencies

(1) Proactive, innovative approach and ability to reprioritize actions regularly;
(2) Excellent written and proofreading skills with a high level of attention to detail;
(3) Ability to process and build-up knowledge and expertise in communicating technical issues relating to climate change;
(4) Excellent understanding of integrated, multi-channel communications, including different social media platforms;
(5) Excellent interpersonal skills and a good team player, with the ability to work independently, as well as effectively with others;
(6) Experience of handling media, selling-in stories and being part of a wider effort to raise the organization’s profile;
(7) Good cultural awareness and understanding of how communication approaches may differ depending on geography;
(8) Competence in building great relationships and working with a broad range of internal and external individuals at all levels;
(9) Strong organizational skills, with attention to detail and the ability to multi-task;
(10) Team player with the ability to identify where support is needed and comfortable delivering an administrative workload alongside more strategic activity.

5. COMPENSATION OFFERED:

Gross compensation budgeted for the position is INR 11 to 12.75, lacs per annum. The offer made to the selected candidate shall be commensurate with qualifications, experience, and salary history.

7. MODE OF WORKING:
