People For Action (PFA) is an Indian non-profit organisation whose mission is to improve learning outcomes for students in government schools in India and increase their access to better education and career opportunities.

About Transform School Program:

Transform Schools Programme (TSP) is a collaboration of PFA and The Transform Trust and is working across 65,000 government secondary schools to improve learning outcomes of 2.4 million children in the states of Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh. TSP is helping to successfully transition these children to higher education facilities, as well as provide them improved access to career opportunities, in partnership with concerned State Governments and local NGOs.

TSP deploys its powerful models and high-quality resources, to transform the Enrolment, Teaching, Learning and School Management processes, as well as ensure gender parity. These models are being implemented in partnership with concerned State Government and local NGOs.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Head - Business Development and Partnerships (HBDP) shall be responsible for powering partnerships and securing funding to realize the organization’s mission. S/he will be accountable for actively building and maintaining partnerships aligned to the vision and mission of the organisation, to ensure a diverse and growing portfolio of funding in excess of one million GBP by 2022.

S/he will collaborate internally with the Transform Schools team and externally with Donors, CSRs, Knowledge Partners, Consultants and Grantees and occasionally with state and district-level counterparts (both Government and Non-Government).

The post-holder shall also be responsible for implementing and improving fundraising and partnership strategy in alignment with Transform Schools core values, policies, business and programme models.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

A. Developing Strategies

(1) Implement organisation wide fundraising strategy and work plans for raising unrestricted funds and securing projects;
(2) Develop and implement a partnership strategy;
(3) Develop and maintain business development plans based on the fundraising and 
partnership strategy.

B. Fundraising and Advocacy
(1) Manage end-to-end business development cycle with each prospective donor;
(a) Identify potential and prospective donors, conduct leads, calls and meetings, make presentations, write proposals and close agreements;
(b) Undertake robust research to create a funding pipeline for the organisation through institutional donors, CSRs and High Net-worth Individuals (HNIs);
(c) Actively identify and build relationships for funding and partnership opportunities with potential partners in a systematically;
(d) Learn from proposal and bids results and feed into future proposals and institutional learning;
(e) Conceptualise and organise fundraising campaigns, events and meets;

(2) Raise the organisation’s profile through social media by sharing regular updates.

C. Managing Strategic Partnerships along with Core Team

(1) Conduct face to face meetings with relevant stakeholders for business development;
(2) Lead negotiations with donors over contracts, governance, accountability and other requirements;
(3) Develop and maintain donor relationships, ensuring that the organisation maintains 
effective communication;
(4) Ensure that donor compliances are met with and they receive regular updates on 
progress and milestones achieved;
(5) Produce monthly, up-to-date fundraising reports for the ED;
(6) Work closely with the ED and public relations agency to improve the profile of the 


Applicants must have a Master’s in Management, International Development, Social Sciences, or equivalent.

(1) Minimum of five years’ experience in developing strategic partnerships and fundraising for development organizations;
(2) Experience of managing private and public donor partnerships with relevant networks, that can be leveraged for the organization.

Skills and Competencies:
(1) Strong track and evidence of fundraising from HNIs, Foundations and CSRs;
(2) Strong interpersonal, networking, communication (including a high level of competency in written and verbal English) and IT skills;

(3) Belief in the power of quality education to impact social and economic outcomes for children;
(4) Strong sales mind and skills set;
(5) A positive and persistent attitude for building and investing in relationships and partnerships that can help further the organisation’s goals;
(6) Strategic planning with strong attention to detail and rigorous application of high and continuously improving standards;
(7) Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office (particularly Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel) and online management tools like Flux, Pipedrive, Slack, etc.;
(8) Excellent writing, research and communication skills;
(9) Excellent collaboration, management and problem-solving skills, including ability to prioritise a diverse and demanding workload and consistently meet deadlines.


Gross compensation budgeted for the position is Rs.18 lacs per annum (on a cost to organisation basis).  The offer made to the selected candidate shall be commensurate with qualifications, experience and salary history.
