2. ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND:

HelpAge India is a secular, apolitical, non-profit and non-governmental organization, registered under the Indian Societies' Registration Act of 1860. It voices the concerns of India’s elderly. Formed in 1978, its mission is “to work for the cause and care of disadvantaged older persons and to improve their quality of life”.

HelpAge India is one of the founding members of HelpAge International, a high profile confederation of non-profits from 97 member countries, representing the cause of the elderly at the United Nations.

It works in the following areas of Elder Care:

a) Healthcare

b) Agecare

c) Livelihood

d) Advocacy

Currently there are an estimated 106 million elderly in India. HelpAge advocates for their needs such as for Universal pension, quality healthcare, food security, action against Elder Abuse and many more at a the national, state and societal level with Central and State governments. It advocates for elder friendly policies and their implementation thereof.

The aim is to serve elder needs in a holistic manner, enabling them to live active, dignified and healthier lives. Therefore, HelpAge provides elderly relief through various agecare interventions such as - it runs one of the largest mobile healthcare programs through its Mobile Healthcare Units spanning the country providing free healthcare services to destitute elders, provides Physiocare & also Cancer care services to terminally ill elders, it helps elders become self-reliant and independent through the formation of Elder-Self-Help Groups, conducts cataract surgeries to restore their sight, looks after their basic needs though its Support-a-Gran program, provides Homecare support to bed ridden patients & trains carers, runs Elder Helplines across the country, provides relief & rehabilitation for elders post disasters and provides Active Ageing opportunities.

It works hand-in-hand with Senior Citizens Associations understanding elder needs working with and for them. It empowers senior citizens through Digital Literacy workshops so they can keep pace with the online world and become independent, and makes them aware of Policies, Schemes and Acts beneficial to them, especially the Maintenance & Welfare of Parents & Senior Citizens Act.

3. JOB DESCRIPTION/ RESPONSIBILITIES:

HelpAge wishes to fill the key, senior management vacancy for Director-Finance. Reporting to the Country Head-Finance, the Director-Finance shall have a key role in strategic financial planning and control, with direct responsibility and accountability for managing the entire financial and accounting functions, of the organization.

This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned finance professional, with demonstrated experience of leading the finance and accounts function, to steer and help achieve HelpAge’s ambitious plans, goals and targets.

The Director-Finance shall be responsible for the following:

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

(1) Manage the entire financial system, accounting function and associated teams;

(2) Streamline the financial function and management of accounts;

(3) Manage and develop finance team members;

(4) Translate HelpAge India strategic directions, reflected in the financial plan, budget and objectives, by monitoring actuals vis-à-vis the budget and analyzing variances;

(5) Conduct financial reviews and coordinate the annual, external statutory audit and preparation of annual report and accounts.

4. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES:       

Qualifications:

Applicants must be professionally qualified accountants from a recognized institute of accountancy.

Experience:

(1) Minimum 10-12 years of relevant experience, of which two years should be in a leadership role;

(2) Experience in ERP solutions like ORACLE shall be an advantage;

(3) Prior experience of working with NGOs and/or mid-sized organisations shall be preferred.

Skills and Competencies:

(1) Strong competencies are expected in Project Finance, Financial Accounting and Budget Management;

(2) Familiarity with FCRA Rules and Taxation under Society’s Act;

(3) Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and web-based applications;

(4) Sensitive to the cause of the organisation;

(5) Ability to manage timely delivery of activities;

(6) Demonstrated ability to take initiative and problem-solving.
