3. JOB DESCRIPTION/ RESPONSIBILITIES:

Position Context:
In India, English is a symbol of people's aspirations for quality education and a fuller participation in national and international life. People from the poorest sections of society believe that English is a passport for better life and want their children to be taught the English language at school, right from the beginning.

The National Curriculum Framework (NCF 2005) supports multilingualism with emphasis on English. Subsequent governments have recognized English to be a leading language that needs to be taught to every child in school.

In view of this, SSMI has initiated an English Language Training program for children in its school to enable them to develop into confident and empowered adults, who are able to face the challenges of the world with positivity. SSMI believes that if children from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds receive support in school in terms of a good learning environment and learning opportunities, they are bound to succeed in life. Recent research in neuroscience, developmental psychology, economics, and other fields strengthens this belief and suggests that the earliest years of life may be a particularly promising time to intervene in the lives of low-income children.
