Bharat Rural Livelihood Foundation (Two Vacancies), New Delhi


1. POSITION VACANT: Research Assistant, Bharat Rural Livelihood Foundation, New Delhi (Two vacancies).


Government of India (GOI) initiated Bharat Rural Livelihoods Foundation (BRLF) as an independent organization under the Societies Registration Act, to facilitate civil society action in partnership with the Central and State Governments, for transforming livelihoods and lives of rural households, with an emphasis on women, particularly in the Central Indian Tribal Region.

BRLF is a unique and first-of-its-kind initiative and the Foundation is constituted as a partnership between Government on the one hand and private sector philanthropies, public and private sector undertakings (under Corporate Social Responsibility), on the other. Major functions of BRLF comprise the provision of financial grants to Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to meet their human resource and institutional costs for up-scaling proven interventions, invest in institutional strengthening of smaller CSOs and capacity building of professional human resources working at the grassroots. The General Body and Executive Committee of BRLF are constituted by eminent individuals, as well as ex-officio representatives from private philanthropies, public and private sector organizations, financial institutions, State Governments and GOI.

Research Assistants’ Assignment:

BRLF is undertaking a mixed-method research study, “Civil Society-State Community Partnership for Governance Reform and Livelihoods in Tribal Central India. A study of the “Ushar Mukti Program of West Bengal”.

This study being funded by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, will be exploring Ushar Mukti and its impact on state, CSO and community capacities for addressing livelihood issues pertaining to tribals and other marginalized groups.

The Ushar Mukti program is a unique initiative of CSO-Government collaboration in the state and supported by the BRLF, to create sustainable livelihoods for the tribal, women and other vulnerable groups in the selected blocks through appropriate land and water treatment measures undertaken on a watershed basis by leveraging funds from MGNREGA.

The project aims to develop 1.2 million hectares in the catchments to rejuvenate seven decaying rivers, including Ajay, Mayurakshi, Damodar, Darakeshwari, Kansabati, Shilabati, and Swarnamukhi and their tributaries through focussed interventions in water conservation and harvesting. The interventions also aim at improving the productivity of land by soil and water conservation measures, which would benefit five lacs households, especially tribal households.

Key Job Responsibilities:
(1) Conduct data collection in identified blocks as per the study design;
(2) Participate in interpretation and analysis of data and report writing;



(1) Applicants must have a Post Graduate degree in Social Sciences, Development Studies, Social Work, or any other related field from a reputed institution;
(2) Candidates with a Bachelors’ degree, accompanied by relevant experience, shall also be considered.

(1) Minimum one to two years of experience in research and/ or data collection;
(2) Prior experience of conducting any research study will be desirable;
(3) Experience of working in the Central Indian Tribal Belt and/or understanding of tribal culture, will be an advantage.

Essential Skills and Competencies:
(1) Excellent communication skills in English and Bengali; Knowledge of Hindi is desirable;
(2) Ability to work with different stakeholders such as the government officials, beneficiaries etc.;
(3) Ability to work independently and be organized in work to ensure that tasks are completed in a timely manner;
(4) Willingness to travel;


 The selected candidates would be paid a monthly stipend of Rs. 25,000/- per month during the period of the assignment. S/he would also be eligible to travel benefits during outstation travel as per the Internship policy of BRLF.

6. LOCATION: New Delhi

7. APPOINTMENT: This is a contractual engagement for a period of five-six months. The engagement may be renewed/ extended, based on the performance and/or requirement of the organization.
